Hannie Mae Securitization
Large scale securitization financing for energy assets benefiting the US government : Hannie Mae
The US Government is the largest single consumer of energy in the United States, with very old building stock, and failure to appropriate upgrades causes the US Government to lose billions of dollars annually in excess utility costs.
Competing uses for scarce appropriated dollars generally crowds out investment in building upgrades, leading to excessive operating and utility costs in Federal buildings
We created the Hannon Armstrong Multi-Asset Investment Trust (“Hannie Mae”) to efficiently fund energy efficiency upgrades in Federal buildings through aggregation and securitization to provide the low cost interest financing.
We have been a significant contributor to the US Government’s carbon reduction goals, and, as of December 31, 2012, the outstanding principal balance of our managed assets financed through the use of securitizations was $1.4 billion.
