Chairman, President and CEO
Mr. Eckel has served as chairman of our board of directors since 2013 and has served as our president and chief executive officer since 2013. He was president and chief executive officer since 2000, and prior to that from 1985 to 1989 a senior vice president, of Hannon Armstrong Capital, LLC, the entity that operated our historical business prior to the consummation of our April 2013 initial public offering. He previously held senior executive positions such as chief executive officer of EnergyWorks, LLC and Wärtsilä Power Development. Mr. Eckel is a member of the board of directors of the Alliance To Save Energy and is a member of the President’s Council of Ceres, Inc., the Cornell University Program in Infrastructure Policy advisory board and on the board of The Nature Conservancy of MD and DC. He was appointed by the governor of Maryland to the board of the Maryland Clean Energy Center in 2011 where he served until 2016 while also serving as its chairman from 2012 to 2014. Mr. Eckel has over 35 years of experience in financing, owning and operating infrastructure and energy assets. Mr. Eckel received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University in 1980 and a Master of Public Administration degree from Syracuse University, Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, in 1981. He holds Series 24, 63 and 79 securities licenses.
Executive Vice President and General Counsel
Mr. Chuslo has been general counsel since 2008 and has served as an executive vice president and our general counsel since 2013. Mr. Chuslo is responsible for internal governance matters and is actively involved in structuring, developing, negotiating and closing transactions. He has more than 25 years of experience in the fields of securities, commercial finance and energy development, U.S. federal regulation and project finance. Previously, Mr. Chuslo was the senior legal and finance advisor to the Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. His prior experience includes being a legal consultant to the office of the general counsel for AOL, Inc. and the General Counsel to EnergyWorks, LLC. In addition, Mr. Chuslo was an associate attorney with Chadbourne & Parke, LLP practicing in the power project finance group and earlier with Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, practicing in the corporate finance group. Mr. Chuslo received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst in 1982 and a Juris Doctorate from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1990.
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Herron has served in a variety of roles at Hannon Armstrong and its affiliates from 1994 to 2005, and from 2011 to 2013 and has served as an executive vice president and our chief financial officer since 2013. Mr. Herron has over 20 years of experience in structuring, executing and operating infrastructure and technology investments. From 2006 to 2011, Mr. Herron was the vice president of Corporate Development & Strategy for Current Group, LLC, a provider of smart grid technology to electric utilities. He formerly served on the U.S. Commerce Secretary’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee and is presently a member of the Board of Trustees of Calvert Hall College High School (Baltimore, MD). Mr. Herron received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and computer science from Loyola University Maryland in 1982 and a Master of Business Administration degree from Loyola University Maryland in 1987 and has passed the CPA and CMA examinations.
Executive Vice President, Portfolio Management
Mr. McMahon has been with Hannon Armstrong since 2000 in a variety of roles, most recently as a senior vice president since 2007 and has served us as an executive vice president since 2015. He has played a role in analyzing, negotiating and structuring several billion dollars of transactions. Mr. McMahon previously worked with T. Rowe Price from 1997 to 2000. Mr. McMahon received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, San Diego in 1993, and is a CFA charter holder. He holds Series 24, 63 and 79 securities licenses.
Ms. Nickey joined Hannon Armstrong in 2014 as a managing director. Prior to that, she founded and served as CEO of Threshold Power. Prior to working at Threshold, she served as CFO of ACCIONA Energy North America from 2007-2010 and before that as Managing Director of investment banking in the project finance group of Mesirow Financial. Ms. Nickey currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Wind Energy Association and its Finance Committee and the Board of Directors of the American Council of Renewable Energy and its Executive Committee.She previously served on the Governor of Nevada's Renewable Energy Development Program Task Force. She is a frequent speaker at renewable energy events, particularly on topics related to capital markets and financing trends for clean energy, including wind and solar and was named one of Women's eNews' 21 Leaders for the 21st Century for her leadership in sustainable development. Ms. Nickey holds a Bachelor in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame and a Master's of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.
Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer
Nathaniel J. Rose, CFA has been with the Company and its Predecessor since 2000 in a variety of roles, and currently serves as an executive vice president and chief investment officer. He has been involved with a vast majority of our transactions since 2000. He earned a joint Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Richmond in 2000, a Master of Business Administration degree from the Darden School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia in 2009, is a CFA charter holder and has passed the CPA examination. He holds a Series 63 and 79 securities licenses.
Executive Vice President
Mr. Wooten has been with Hannon Armstrong as a managing director since 2010 and has served us as an executive vice president since 2013. Mr. Wooten has worked in the energy industry for more than 30 years, and has extensive experience in project development, commodity trading/risk management and project finance. Mr. Wooten previously held a number of senior management positions, including serving as President of Duke Energy Corporation’s domestic and international independent power production affiliates, as Managing Director, origination and operations of Duke/Louis Dreyfus, chief executive officer of Merchant Energy Group of the Americas (MEGA), as president and chief executive officer of Pradium, Inc. and as president of Allied Syngas Corporation. Mr. Wooten received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1981. He holds Series 63 and 79 securities licenses.
Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer
Mr. Melko joined Hannon Armstrong in 2016 as a Senior Vice President and Controller of the Company and was appointed Senior Vice President & Chief Accounting Officer in March of 2017. Prior to joining Hannon Armstrong, he served in a number of roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), including as a Senior Manager in the National Professional Services Group where he focused on complex financial instruments accounting issues for energy clients. Mr. Melko received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy, a Master of Business Administration degree and a Master of Science degree in Accountancy from Wheeling Jesuit University. He holds a CPA license in West Virginia and Maryland.
Chief Human Resources Officer
Ms. Smith joined Hannon Armstrong in 2017 as its Chief Human Resources Officer where she focuses on culture, strategy, and organizational development. Before joining Hannon Armstrong, Ms. Smith was Chief Human Resources Officer, overseeing global human resources and facilities as well as advising multiple portfolio companies across diverse industries, for publicly-traded American Capital and its affiliates. For eight years prior, she was Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Corporate Marketing for publicly-traded CapitalSource, a leading professional services organization. She has run HR for several companies owned by Constellation Energy and Sylvan Learning Systems. Additionally, she worked both domestically and overseas in various positions for Citicorp. Ms. Smith has been recognized for her leadership by the HR Leadership Awards of Greater Washington and has been featured in or contributed to publications such as The Washington Post, Washington Business Journal, Employee Benefits News, and Smart CEO Magazine. She is a frequent public speaker. She is also a Board Member of the Y of Central Maryland, one of the fastest growing and largest Y associations in North America and an employer of choice amongst Baltimore Magazine’s “Top 25 Places to Work”. In 2016, she was awarded the Y of Central Maryland’s ‘Volunteer Instrumental in Supporting Change for a Positive Future’ and acknowledged as its Top Fundraiser for its signature charity event for three consecutive years (2015, 2016, and 2017). Ms. Smith is an avid volunteer for numerous philanthropic causes. She serves on the Membership and Nominating Committee of the Senior HR Executive Forum and has participated on Evanta’s CHRO Governing Body for its DC Leadership Summit. Ms. Smith is a Senior Professional in HR (SPHR) and a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). She holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Science in Organizational Counseling from Johns Hopkins University.
Senior Vice President, Public Sector Investments
Mr. Johnson is responsible for growing Hannon Armstrong’s financing solutions in the Public Sector which includes the federal, state & local and healthcare market segments. Mr. Johnson has been at the leading edge of the energy efficiency industry where he has built businesses across a broad range of systems and services. Prior to joining Hannon Armstrong, Mr. Johnson held executive leadership positions at multinational organizations such as Cooper Industries where he led global sales for one of their divisions, Ingersoll Rand (Trane) where he led North American Institutional Sales which included healthcare, government and education segments, and Johnson Controls Federal Systems Division where he was the global sales leader. Mr. Johnson began his career at Honeywell where he held leadership positions in various divisions of Honeywell during his 15-year tenure. He has been published in Military Engineer magazine and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Maryland.
